Work Out Video
2002

42" x 47"

The 'muscle man' image is an original drawing and computer printed on various fabrics - those fabrics then sliced and resewn so that the image is seemingly continuous over the varied hues. The detail photograph below shows a bit more clearly the result of the technique - as well as the terrific hand-printed muscle man images in the border by those wonderful fiber people at Lunn Fabrics!

$1200

This quilt was awarded the Judge's Choice Award at the Schweinfurth Art Musuem, November2003
and won 2nd Place Award at NY Quilts!

Nile Goddess XVI

2002

29" x 35"

This is the most recent in my series of Goddess altar pieces. It incorporates traditional and non-traditional piecework, Seminole piecework, and machine applique.
The fabrics are American printed Cottons, Balinese Batiks, and Hand-Dyed Cottons.
The goddess image is computer generated and printed and painted. The beaded glass fringe is approximately 6" long and machine sewn.

African Banner
2002
27" x 60"

I have always been attracted to the banner shaped quilt...there is just something pleasing about the proportions of a banner to me...not to mention, I love having something to hang on a door!
The fabrics in this quilt are African batik (the turquoise salamanders), hand printed African blends (the purple and metallic gold fabric of the inner border and the metallic gold centers of the primary blocks), and American printed cottons.
This banner is heavily machine quilted.

Size Matters!

2004

17 3/4" x 17 3/4"

I created this quilt especially for the Art Space Open Studios Exhibit. 500 artists were each given one 18" square of wall space in which to display a piece of work. Since this is a bit smaller than I usually work, it was fun (and a bit of a challenge) to make a piece so small. I used my magic marker drawing of a muscle man, the wonderful hand-screened muscle men by Lunn Fabrics in the borders - and Dana Lacy Chapman quilted it heavily with many colors and metallic threads - and embellished it with crystals. There's a lot going on for such a small quilt!

...And All the Gods Wept

2005

50" x 62"

My idea of what the Eighth Deadly Sin is: Intolerance. In this piece, god and goddesses and the deities of many religions cry as they look at the intolerance of some Americans towards their fellow citizens.

This piece was quilted by Dana Lacy Chapman,
and - as always - the quilting enriches the piece immensely.

"It's Easy to Slip Off the Path of the Straight and Narrow When You're
Wearing Spiked Heels and a Push-Up Bra"
I and II

These pieces both use images from the covers of lurid pulp magazines from the 1940's and 1950's pertaining to female criminals. Such popular magazines as "Crimes by Women," "Gangster's Molls," "Female Outlaws" and "Reform School Girls!" were computer
generated onto fabric. There are images of extravagantly high spiked heels
used as the sashing corners on Piece II.

The first piece is 15"x75" and the price is $350; the the second piece is 50"x50" and the price is $600.
